Yoga
The literal translation of Yoga is "union." Through the practice
of Yoga, one desires to unite the individual self with the Absolute (pure
consciousness). There are many different paths one may choose to achieve
this, including: Raja Yoga (the yoga of the mind and meditation); Jnana
Yoga (the yoga of the intellect); Karma Yoga (the yoga of service and
selfless action); and Bhakti Yoga (the yoga of devotional love).
Hatha
Yoga, which joins breath with movement, is another such path. Astanga,
Bikram, Iyengar, Jivamukti, and Kripalu Yoga are all styles of Hatha
Yoga.
Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT) is a unique approach that is primarily
based in Hatha Yoga, but draws from a variety of Yoga paths and styles
to create a safe environment for their students. The IYT method teaches
that the body-mind-spirit connection will help students gain a deeper
understanding of their overall mental and physical wellness.
